!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! left me raising an eyebrow since, well, they did bow out of the console wars after the Dreamcast - and given their recent financial status, I doubt a new console now would be benefitting for a content-based company.

It’s not going to happen, and if it does, it will be the end of Sega. Valve couldn’t do it with their Steam Machines so I doubt Sega could, either. The only way they might have a chance is if there is some serious exclusive content for it. I just don’t see that many people clamoring for yet another Sonic the Hedgehog title.

I don’t think this balancing act is achievable; go too far towards the PC side and you alienate console gamers, but don’t go far enough to this side and you alienate PC gamers as well (and vice-versa for console side).
Knowing Sega’s luck, they’ll strike that perfect balance of no one wanting it.

Yeah, I don’t think thats actually the premise they’re presenting. Kotaku has an article on it. There was some miscommunication.

Depends on how MLG or dank it would be and if this guy promotes it, it will sell.

With Valve, I was expecting a definitive “Steam Box”, and instead it’s a handful of companies producing hardware to a spec with prices that are all over the place other than competitive with existing consoles. This seems like the exact thing that killed CDi.
I got really excited when I saw the rumor of a Dreamcast 2, but I don’t see how it can be anything but bullshit. I just don’t see them having the exclusive IP to float a console in this market.

It doesn’t help that I can build my own Steam Box from parts off of Newegg or Tiger Direct at a competitive price. I don’t think that the hardware manufacturers ever considered the Steam Box thing really seriously.
After all, Gabe Newell started all of this in a fit of rage after what he perceived as a threat from Microsoft after they announced you could play some X-Box games through the Windows Store on Windows 8.
Windows 8.
We’re now on Windows 10 and Steam Boxes are just now going on sale. I understand Gabe wanted to get the Steam controller just right, but you should never underestimate striking while the iron is hot.
